Over My Head

June 13, 2008 2

Confessions Of A Pastor continues this Sunday.

And it’s a genuine confession: I feel completely inadequate.

I had a friend in high school tell me once that I was a “simmering cauldron of insecurities.”

Some friend, right? Actually, you can find out more about him here.

But he was probably on to something.

That’s why this Sunday you’ll find out some of the ways I feel like I’m in over my head; like I’m playing out of my league.

Oh, and you might learn something helpful for you own inadequacies as well. To get ready, check out I Corinthians 1:26 – 2:5.

By the way, Julie did read Tuesday’s anniversary post — but only because I put a highlighted link to Kinetic Concepts Incorporated (her company), and several colleagues have an alert system that lets them know whenver the company gets a citation like that. For a day at least, I had some notoriety over at KCI.

  • Boy, can I relate to this one! I have always struggled with insecurities until recently when God so lovingly showed me that insecurity is another form of pride! I never would have connected the two but He showed me that seeing myself less than He sees me basically says that I think I know better than He knows. Worship is any form of intense focus so the more I focus on my insecurity the more I am self worshipping! A huge lesson which I hope I am learning once and for all!

As His children, we should affirm these basis truths each day:

God is who is says He is and I am who God says I am –

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” 1 Pet. 2:9.

Hey Pastor, I want to leave you a quote from the beginning of my most favorite book outside of the Bible. The author, Art Katz, wrote, “There is no man more qualified than the one who believes in his deepest heart that he is without qualification. The whole preliminary work of God is to disqualify us before we can be qualified, This is totally contrary to the whole religious mindset.” That said, it is not simply a matter of feeling disqualified, but as Paul said, “That the greatness of the power may be of God and not of ourselves”. Pastor, we ALL ought to be over our own heads in this thing, shouldn’t we?
