Old School Launch

May 3, 2013 3
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker Of Heaven And Earth . . .

So begins one of the oldest compilations of the church’s beliefs, a bold declaration known as
The Apostles’ Creed.

Some of you grew up reciting it in church every week. Others had more limited exposure to these words, and even that was colored with some suspicions. And then still others aren’t even sure who the  “apostles” really are, much less why they have a creed.

Wherever you are on that continuum, we believe Old School is for you. Because we believe the words in the Apostles’ Creed  contain treasures that are worthy of our exploration and celebration. Because although the creed may be ancient, its power is always current.

Old School. It’s how we’re teaching the old through the new.

  • Until I came to Good Shepherd, I had never heard of the Apostle’s Creed. It surprised me that it existed and I had never heard of it, because even though I didn’t grow up Christian, my friends were always Christian.

We studied the Creed a bit in Fusion, but I’m really looking forward to your sermon series about it. 🙂

  • Wesley says:

I preached a series on the Apostles’ Creed several months ago and broke it up a little bit differently, but I found it to be a really formative experience for my congregation.

I’m curious… why did you leave out the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting?

  • Talbot Davis says:

    Good question.

Eight weeks is such a stretch for us in terms of series length.

I hope to cover those other subjects in the existing messages.

We do believe in both the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting!
