Without Limit
January 30, 2009 at 7:35 am 0
Without Limit starts on Sunday:

It's going to be different. It's going to be daring. It's going to be dangerous.

Kind of like the Holy Spirit himself.

To make space for the Spirit to be given without any limits, we're having Healing Services every Monday night in February, starting with February 2.

Don't miss the move of the Spirit in this place and among this people.

Top Secret Stuff
January 16, 2009 at 7:00 am 0
Last Sunday (January 11) was one of the most powerful worship experiences we've ever had at Good Shepherd. The title was "Secret Pain" and we dealt with issues of abuse, incest, and trauma, all based on the Tamar-Amnon-Absalom story from 2 Samuel 13.

The message was frank and direct. You can listen to it here.

But the message was really a prelude to this testimony:

Thanks to Chris Macedo for putting audio, video, and art together to craft a Spirit-filled experience.

Thanks to the courageous woman who prepared the deeply personal testimony.

There's more Top Secret coming on Sunday as we look at "Secret Dreams." 8:30. 10:00. 11:30.

It's the first series we've ever done that has its own website.
And based on the traffic there, a lot of you are eager to deal with secrets in healthy, hopeful ways.
That's what we'll do, starting with the First Secret EVER.
Sunday. 8:30. 10:00. 11:30.

No Inn In The Room
December 19, 2008 at 7:00 am 0
The last phrase of Luke 2:7 is one of the most familiar -- and misunderstood -- sections of Scripture: "for there was no room in the inn."

This Sunday, we'll remove some of the sentimentality from those words. We'll see them for what they really say -- in all their truthfulness, pain, and hope.

It's going to be good. I can feel it already.

A Time For Those On The Outside Looking In. 8:30. 10:00. 11:30.

The Church Being The Church
December 15, 2008 at 11:14 am 0

We dedicated a Habitat For Humanity house on Saturday.

We parntered with Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church as well as some corporate sponsors in Charlotte.

It took 14 Saturdays of volunteer labor to build a house for and with the Hoover family. The Hoovers worked right alongside us most of the way. Jeff Humphries from Good Shepherd was the project coordinator and, as always, did a super job.

This is the second house Good Shepherd has dedicated in 2008 -- we built the first one in partnership with Olympic High School.

Our financial contribution for the two houses was well over $50,000. Not to be monotonous . . . but for that $50,000 we did no fund raisers. No BBQs. No special offerings. No raffles. We were able to have that kind of generosity as a church because the people of the church are themselves generous in giving on Sunday. We've made Habitat a priority and now two families in 2008 have moved into home ownership.

That's the church being the church.
