Good Shepherd
Beyond unChristian
July 10, 2009 at 6:00 am 0
Don't miss this Sunday.

Just don't do it.

The music will move you, the message will surpise you, and the videos will inspire you.

They all come together to complement the journey we just took in unChristian while preparing us for the journey we're going to take with Still.

What is Still?

You'll find out Sunday.

8:30. 10:00. 11:30.

From unChristian To Christian
July 3, 2009 at 6:00 am 3

Six weeks ago, I admitted in a post that I get more excited over some series than others, and that unChristian was one of those series.

Many of you now know why.

We spread the teaching around.

The music hit the mark.

Videos brought home the point.

And the people of Good Shepherd were ready to be challenged, to become uncomfortable, to hear the disconcerting news that many people reject Jesus because they feel rejected by us. Yeah, by us.

So this Sunday (July 5), we wrap it up. How?

From unChristian To Christian. To get ready, read John 8:2-11.

Stop Judging Me!
June 26, 2009 at 6:00 am 0

This is the image that many people have of Christians and of churches.

As places full of judging and lacking in grace.

As we plunge further into the adventure that is unChristian, this Sunday we'll see what's really behind the judgmental attitudes so many of Jesus' people seem to have.

And then we'll move away from it.

Sunday.

8:30. 10. 11:30.

They’re All Hypocrites!
June 19, 2009 at 6:00 am 0

Two faces are pretty frightening, aren't they?

That's how a lot of the world beyond the church perceives the world inside the church: as full of two-faced people.

Hypocrites, in other words.

So this Sunday at Good Shepherd, we'll talk about becoming the kind of people and the kind of church where the two faces merge into one.

The kind of church and the kind of people who move from unChristian to Christian.

Sunday. 8:30. 10. 11:30.

Christians In A Bubble
June 12, 2009 at 6:00 am 2

Paul Simon sang about The Boy In The Bubble on his classic 1986 album Graceland.

You can see and hear it here. It's well worth your time.

The bubble in the image to the right and on the song is designed to protect and to insulate. Of course in the case of serious illness (like with the boy in the song), the bubble is a matter of life and death.

However, a lot of us who name the name of Jesus have retreated into a Christian bubble. Not as a matter of life and death, but as a matter of convenience and comfort. We're the ones who listen only to Christian radio, have Christian bumper stickers, go on Christian cruises, and, of course, wear Christian T-shirts.

In other words, we're sheltered.

At least that's how young people outside the faith perceive us.

So we'll look at the subject this Sunday. Along the way, we'll discover that moving from unChristian to Christian involves moving from sheltered to unSheltered.

Sunday. 8:30. 10:00. 11:30.
