5, 7, and 9

December 24, 2010 1

So this is Christmas.

At 5:00 this evening we’ll have a high-octane Family Celebration with music, drama, and word coming from our G-Force Children’s Team. Having seen the rehearsal, you can expect to be blown away.

Then at both 7:00 and 9:00 we’ll host Candlelight Praise and Worship. The focus of our conversation will continue to be Luke 4:19 — “He has sent me . . . to set the oppressed free.”

Since that’s what Jesus does, that’s what we’ll do: set oppressed people free.

So the Christmas Eve service will culminate with an offering (Yes! An offering on Christmas Eve!) in support of our partners at the International Justice Mission, a world-wide organization dedicated to freeing victims of the modern day slave trade.

Based on how this church has already responded, I can’t wait to see what will happen on this Holy Night.

    Dear Pastor Davis,

I just happened across a news article regarding your Christmas services this year, and what you were led to do for those who are not free and victims of human trafficking.

    GOD BLESS YOU!

I am from California, actually raised in the Methodist church (1st United Methodist, Santa Barbara, served under Rev. Lloyd Saatjian) and a former director of youth ministry there as well. I am currently not in formal ministry, but am raising money and awareness to help fight human trafficking as well. I am going to be hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, as a sort of “walk-a-thon”…although I could only dream of being as effective as you and your amazing congregation have been. God bless you, and every one of your congregation, for what you are doing for this cause. I am so excited to see the power and mercy of Jesus Christ manifest itself through your church…way to be the arms and legs of God!!

I hope this message finds you and your church well. You will continue to be in my prayers.

    In Christ,

    Dug Shelby
