So yesterday, everyone who entered the Worship Center received a small container of Play Dough.
We talked about how we are God’s “workmanship” — in a grand sense how we are the raw material that God then fashions into a thing of beauty and purpose. We are his masterpiece.
In other words, we are all pieces of work.
But it didn’t stop there.
We are not masterpieces to gaze in the mirror and proclaim how good we look. God makes us his pieces of work because we have “been created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” We’re worked on to work for.
So we talked about that at Good Shepherd. And then we challenged the many people who receive ministry from the church to then provide ministry through the church. After all, that’s why God is making them a piece of work — to work for him.
And it all ended up with 10 minutes of silence as people then crafted their Play Dough into clay creations that represented what God is doing in them. Now. Today. And here’s the result.
It was one of the most unique ways we’ve worshipped and prayed together. But I believe it was one of the most effective as well.
So one week and one experiment down in Piece Of Work. And we didn’t fall on our face.

I feel like a little kid with my “masterpiece” on the refrigerator. I made the blog picture! Thank you for such an uplifting expierence on Sunday.
HAHAHA!, my art work made the blog.
When I was a kid we done a play at church called down by the creek bank. There was song in the play called “He’s still working on me”.
In a little country Nazarene church last year on fathers day, I was moved to tears listening to my father testify. Holding the pew just in front of him, he steadied himself from the years of torment that the polio virus he had as a child has inflected. With his voice cracking just a bit he said “He’s Still Working On Me”.
I thought to myself, What? His work with you has been nothing short of phenomenal. A loving wife of fifty plus years, a rewarding career in prosthetics and orthotics, two kids that actually turned out okay (He’s Still Working On Me Too)a wonderful home, the list is endless. I guess it’s the seventy five years of experience, prayer and obedience that my earthly father some how knows our Heavenly Fathers work continues into our last days.
When asked yesterday to spend a few moments molding the clay to represent what God was doing in me and through me, I drew a blank! I had nothing! Not-a!
Yet, I sat there reflecting on the past year since turning my life over to him, how different I truly am.
I no longer drink to get drunk, I no longer swear, I no longer judge(thanks for the Billy Graham quote in the un-Christian series), I strive to turn my back on gossip, I spend more time in prayer, I share my faith and belief with others, but all I could mold was the green C. It is actually represents a big smile. I would like to keep a smile on my face throughout each and every day, not matter what I face. When life becomes so dysfunctional, I want to stop, be STILL and SMILE! For I know my God is with me and he has promised me a mansion.
John 14:1-6 (my favorite scripture)
So SMILE everyone, this is the day the Lord has made.
Worked On To Work For! or as my father would say, “He’s Still Working On Me”.
So, so blessed to have found Good Shepherd!
May the Lord continue to bless you and your family Talbot.
Matt
I agree with Matt.
May the Lord continue to bless you and your family Talbot.
